This Moorooka project focused on delivering a long term stormwater solution that suited the property’s layout and access conditions. Through detailed drain inspection and careful planning, we repaired damaged pipework and installed a bypass where excavation was not practical. Completed over two days, the outcome was a reliable stormwater system with improved flow and reduced risk of future issues.
The homeowner contacted us looking for clarity around their stormwater system and a solution that suited both the site and their budget. They wanted accurate information, efficient work and confidence that the system would operate as intended once completed.
As an experienced plumber in Moorooka, our priority was to provide accurate information through proper inspection, then recommend practical options that suited the site. The goal was to resolve drainage concerns, prevent future blocked drain issues, and ensure the system would continue to perform reliably.
Initial CCTV Drain Inspection
We began the project with a full CCTV drain inspection for accuracy. This allowed us to visually assess the condition of the stormwater system and confirm flow paths without disturbance to the property. The inspection revealed two distinct problem areas that required different repair methods.
Locating and Assessing Stormwater Faults
Using camera and location equipment, we pinpointed the exact position and depth of the damaged sections. This step ensured that any excavation would be precise and limited to where it was genuinely needed.

Planning Repairs Around Site Conditions
One damaged section was accessible and suitable for excavation and repair. Another section ran approximately 15 metres, was suspended, and sat within a tight access zone with large tree roots present. Rather than forcing a single repair method, we planned a combination approach that would deliver the best outcome for the property and the client.
Excavation and Repair of the Accessible Section
We excavated the first damaged section and found that the original installation had been poorly completed, with fittings not correctly secured. The damaged pipework was removed and replaced, restoring proper alignment and flow through that section of the stormwater system. This type of targeted stormwater repairs often help prevent recurring drainage problems.
Designing a Practical Bypass Solution
For the suspended section, full excavation would have significantly increased costs without improving the result. Instead, we designed a bypass that redirected flow around the damaged pipework. This approach allowed us to restore function while avoiding unnecessary disruption. It is a method we often use during drainage repairs when access is limited.
Tight access and tree root intrusion were the main considerations on this project. Excavating the suspended section would have involved extensive work for limited benefit. By choosing a bypass solution, we maintained system performance while keeping the project efficient and cost effective. This flexibility is key when managing blocked drain issues linked to site constraints rather than simple pipe failure.
Combining Repairs and Bypass for Best Results
The final solution brought together direct repairs and a carefully planned bypass. We repaired the accessible damaged section and installed the bypass to handle flow through the suspended run. This combined approach ensured consistent stormwater movement across the entire system.
Services Delivered on This Project
The client benefited from a streamlined set of services, including:
The stormwater system was fully restored within two days, delivering improved flow and reliability across the property. Our inspection also highlighted installation issues from the original build, allowing us to correct them and strengthen the system overall.
